The second apparel release from KHIRY studio features an original illustration by KHIRY Creative Director Jameel Mohamed of the “Protect Black Futures” ring, a sculptural four fingered ring inspired by community based technologies of protection.  The silhouetted spikes form a network of protection for the black egg-shaped orbs, symbols of Black potential. The design explores Mohammed's own memories and experiences of safety within communities largely led by Black women. The piece investigates the ways this impulse of protection is regularly pathologized by and met with violence from the broader society, yet still plays a crucial role in the growth and development of Black possibilities. Moreover the text implores us to still engage in this work, regardless of how it may look to others.
