Color + Mood + References
Afrodiasporic color and mood References curated from throughout time and place, with dual moods of ease and serenity, contrasted with sarcasm, wit, humor and confidence. Metallic textures underscore the brand's roots in jewelry, while soft neutral tones, and passionate tones suggest a warm climate
Logotype + Logomark
KHIRY logotype, originally introduced in 2016 was designed in Corbel to create bold striking impact. The capitalized font offers a graphic triangular quality, and in the KHIRY Logotype, provides an excellent line of vertical symmetry. Early uses of the logotype were larger in scale, and became smaller as the brand evolved, to indicate greater subtlety, and allow the logomark to indicate the brand in more use cases.
KHIRY Khartoum Silhouette logomark, originally introduced in 2016, embodies the brand's design language of sinuous curves, graduated lines, and the contrast of sharp points and rounded edges. The later evolution of the logomark saw greater heft given to the silhouette throughout, increasing the interpretability of the silhouette across platforms and scales.
Packaging Kit
The packaging kit offered the opportunity to develop an original KHIRY monogram a further evolution of the Khartoum silhouette. Emphasizing the brand's post 2020 emphasis on Afrofuturist Luxury, the monogram was printed in a clear polished gloss on matte soft touch stock. A small KHIRY logotype in reflective silver added further shine, cooled by a lush black velvet interior. Gold was initially considered for the logotype, as the majority of products sold are in gold tone, but I opted for silver for its added futuristic touch.
Printed thank you and authenticity cards in ivory stock, added an additional opportunity for personalization.
Khartoum Silhouette
Core to the KHIRY Brand Strategy was the incorporation of the Signature Khartoum Silhouette across touchpoints, from product, to visuals, to packaging, to create an iconic and brand definitive symbol. Below are several implementations of the silhouette in graphics and product.
Khartoum Silhouette - Graphics
Khartoum Silhouette - Product
The silhouette has been featured in KHIRY embroidery, graphics, inlays and hardware in apparel, demi-fine and fine jewelry
KHIRY was first conceived as "A Luxury Brand Inspired by the African Diaspora" with the aim of introducing a transnational black cultural inspiration to the highest echelons of luxury fashion.
The goal was to establish a distinguished brand and recognizable identity among luxury jewelry shoppers and fashion devotees
KHIRY's debut offering was a collection of demifine jewelry, built around the Khartoum Bangle. The accompanying graphics were crafted and visual references selected to establish parity with other brands stocked by first tier retailers and covered by premium outlets.
