KHIRY Collection 004, Moving Together is inspired by the power of organized motion as a symbol in Afrodiasporic politics and art. The collection calls for the further convergence of African and Diasporic culture common today in dance and music. and the vibrant possibilities collaboration might bring. Printed on vintage and virgin cotton garments, acquired in the diaspora, with techniques rooted in Africa, the pieces mark a will to find solutions to intra-diasporic conflicts spurred by the transatlantic slave trade, harmonizing distinct traditions into a complete language.
A series of 1/1 shirts, handmade by Jameel Mohammed, exploring techniques grounded in West African Block Printing traditions, further distinguished by tie dye motifs commonly identified with 70's Americana. Each item features an original and irreplicable composition, comprised of layered impressions of the KHIRY Moving Together Silhouettes.
