The collection's striking emeralds inspired recollections of the Emerald City Sequence in seminal 70's film The Wiz. A striking work of Afrofuturism, close to my own story of development as an artist and community member, I sought to honor the film's opulence in fine jewelry.
We sought to enter the fine market with a collection of stand-out pieces, taking KHIRY's sculptural Afrofuturist design language to a new level of heirloom prestige, establishing both standout and core styles.
A 15+ Style collection of 18k fine jewelry, (Rings, Earrings, Bracelets, Necklaces) with Muzo Emeralds, and Hearts on Fire Diamonds. Retail prices ranging from $2500 - $25,000
The collection sold a combined 6 figures through Net a Porter, khiry.com and direct client orders. KHIRY Custom fine jewelry sales also increased significantly following the launch of KHIRY Fine.
Sketches
I initiated the project sketching widely in graphite, referencing new and classic KHIRY silhouettes that could make ideal feature opportunities for the emeralds. Hand sketching allowed me to keep the ideas loose for presentation to the Net a Porter team, maintaining flexibility to incorporate feedback and insight from the buying and merchandising teams.
Renders
I worked with the NAP team to select a final group of styles representing a range of price points, and balancing both everyday and extravagant design styles. I constructed all of the models using Rhino 3d, and created renderings using Keyshot for approval from the NAP team prior to initiating the production order.
Production
I worked to source the production in the NYC Diamond District with assistance from Tony Goldsberry at Rock House and Meeling Wong. I coordinated directly, and via my team, to manage each step of the production process, solving production challenges through the 3D Printing, Casting, Stone Setting, Finishing and Engraving processes.
